A politician once said: What difference does it make? In the vote coming up on Nov. 17 regarding Swanton Wind, your vote could make a big difference in the way of life for you and your neighbors, in the appearance of the Vermont landscape, in the environment for wildlife, and in the profits for investors and foreign corporations.
And, yes, it will provide another source of renewable energy which Vermont utilities say is not needed now or to meet the governor’s objectives for 2030.
In the past few months I have learned a great deal about renewable energy and like most of us I think it is an energy source we must consider. I also have come to believe that there is much work to do to effectively integrate renewable energy projects into the grid.
This will take planning, legislative approvals, and local support of siting; many things which we need to discuss with each other, utilities and government officials. Recent published comments by all involved parties indicate that there is much work to be done.
Vermont is known as a beautiful state but Vermont is more than that; it is a way of life. If we allow investors and developers to take over and destroy these values then we will leave a legacy for present and future generations.
Your vote makes a huge difference. Vote your conscience and Vote YES on Article 1 to oppose building Swanton Wind’s 499 foot tall towers on Rocky Ridge. Vote Yes on Article 2 to support local control.
